Open Thread .02

Conversation starters:

Where's the Beast?  The Mickey Cam has been down for DAYS.  Has the beast been set loose from the jail?  Look, even the Save Mickey nutters are smart enough to get a webcam up within FIVE DAYS!  This STINKS!  SHOW ME THE BEAST!

Why don't people complain more?  Well, that would be due to the cultural norm of NEVER BLAMING A DOG OR OWNER FOR ANYTHING!   In other words...

Those guilty of BadSpeak and BadThink will be sent to the doggy GULAG!   Comrade Mickey will make it so!

On a lighter note, anyone want to adopt this monster?

Look at the maw on that damn thing.  It could crush a bowling ball for #%&@ sake!  Who would want that in their home?  It could take your head off with one bite!  It is something out of a sci-fi horror movie!  Yet, SOMEHOW it is pimped as a great family pet.  Whodathunkit!!!!

  2. You are correct. Where is Mickey ? I could get the cheapest webcam at wally and it would work better than the one they claim is down.
If that dog is out of the MASH unit it should be put down. Either that or it's being moved to another rescue. Sheriff Joe might be sick of the whole mess.

Ka D thank you for calling that thing a meat grinder. It's exactly what they are. My trigger figner twitched just looking at it.

  3. If The Mickster has been taken out of MASH, each and every Two-Legger involved should be arrested for violating a court order. The beast was NOT to be removed! Period.

If the beast is truly on the loose, then yes, the damn thing should be shot dead on sight. It was locked up in the interest of public safety. Catching the damn thing and "turning it in" would be demonstrably pointless as civil order has clearly broken down. Authorities CAN NOT be trusted in this matter. It needs to be killed before it attacks another kid. If there is no protection from it, then there should be none FOR it. It is a worthless fleabag with NO rights. ENOUGH SAID.

According to this there is a trust. Money that probably should been donated to the child he mauled.

      Delete
    2. The trust fund scenario is interesting - it will probably be exhausted before the Mickster dies, particularly if they pursue expensive cancer treatments. What are they going to do then?

The trust may be a smokescreen in any case - I'm confident the public is forced to cover at least some of Mickey's care.

  9. If you look at the other pictures that dog has had some reconstructive surgery. That's another problem with pit bulls, the cruelty brought out by the scum of the earth who abuse them. I have enough sympathy for any creatures we share our world with to hate animal abuse. It would be better to see the breed go extinct than to see the torture mankind inflicts on them.

    1. Trisha. this dog illustrates why I have less and less interest in animal welfare and cruelty cases. This animal should have been brought in. Given some pain medication and x-rays and photos for evidence and then put down. Shelters and rescues have dog and cat stacked like cordwood.
ALL shelters and rescues seem to see finding a dog like this akin to having the golden fleece dropped in their laps. The dog is exploited and the donations roll in.
Just like Sheriff Joe is using Mickey to generate donations. A dog that ripped the face off a child or a dog with a face that got ripped off. It's all about the $$$.
There is a difference between ending animal abue and the crapola going on in the name of it. The dog they claim was hurt by humans could have sustained that injury on many things while living on the streets likely scrounging for food.
And dogs are not homeless. People can be homeless. Animals running loose are strays.
I am sick of these twisted organizaitons exploiting abused animals for profit. The Mcnuts had one of their ilk suggest donations for a new camera. How about one of them suggest donations for Kevin.

      Delete
    2. Many times when pits are found injured it's because they were out running loose (ei: hunting) and got stabbed or an ax in the head from someone protecting themselves or their pet.

      Delete
    3. KaD: Exactly. To the Initiate, "animal cruelty" is inclusive of shooting a dog that is latched onto the head of a 4 year old. IOW's not necessarily cruel (to the dog).

Pursuant to the last article, using any force against any dog for any reason is considered incorrect.

      Delete
    4. On the site it is stated all they can do is speculate. But of course it was probably a mean pit hating human.

Many rescues don't readily invite anyone in to see the actual facility. The tactic used on P & P is common. they show you an animal in a secure setting that they deem suitable or bring out one you may have seen online. They also rely heavily on adoption fairs and events to showcase dogs and cats. The truth is many are squalid sheds , barns and garages with cages stacked and the filth evident. Most dogs and cats are fed minimum rations. This can lead to resource guarding in dogs. In fact mess with the most basic necessity , food and water in plentiful supply and you mess with the whole animal. What they promote you feed them at the adoption is not likely what they have been eating. That would be the cheapest product at the big box store.
Sadly a lot of shelters and rescues are little more than tax write offs. For all the noise about background and home checks most are at the very best superficial.
The few good ones do nothing to make up for the expanding industry of save animals. Regular inspections are rare. FGS if you get a dog from a rescue and they don't have an open door policy run. If they have cages full blind, cripple, three legged one eye dogs. Run. If it's a pit rescue you don't have common sense anyway. You'll take the one with a history of biting, killing other pets and may be a bit nervous around kids. Cause it's how you raise them. Even though you won't have a clue how your pit was raised.

      Delete
    5. There was a time when I contributed to animal rescues but no more. The ASPCA is nothing more than a pit pimping organization lying to the public (http://blog.dogsbite.org/2008/06/aspca-pushing-pit-bull-adoption-big.html), the Humane Society contributes 1% of their donations to local shelters (www.humanewatch.org) and PETA routinely euthanizes over 90% of the animals they 'rescue' while ultimately adopting out only 1% (www.petakillsanimals.com). Besides, IMO there are FAR too many dogs already and more rescue is definitely NOT needed. Mandatory by LAW spay and neuter is what is needed.

      Delete
  10. Again I would rather see them go extinct than continue to be abused. I consider pimping them and exploiting them another form of cruelty. What kind of life is it for an animal in and out of shelters and foster homes? They don't have the capacity to understand what's going on. In all fairness to them it's less cruel to put them down. One of the war cries is "dogs deserve better ". That's true, they deserve better than life in a no kill shelter. They Deserve The Peace Of Death Over The Torment Of The Shelters.
As for donations for Kevin, sheriff Joe should be paying for his care since he was so quick to save Mickey.

    1. A dog or cat is not a pet when they live in crates and cages. While they are tame and managed they are not socialized to living in a home. That happens in the early months of their life when they can still be imprinted. Which is sort of hardwiriing the brain to see humans as being in charge. All of the rest of the crap like saving dogs used for fighting and what amounts to feral dogs on the street is nonsense. Most people don't realize that many of these shelters and rescues have paid employees. Often the person who runs it.

  12. Our family once adopted a big shelter dog. They were not a no kill place and the only door not open to the public was the kill room. Kurt was a great dog, other than a housebreaking battle. Once he understood it wasn't acceptable to hike or poop in the house he was pretty close to perfect. He lived a long healthy happy life with us. If I were to adopt another dog, I'd look there again. It's far less cruel to give them a time limit. I would stay far away from the pits. I prefer something safer myself.
I'm not against defending yourself or anyone else from an attack. I'm all for criminal charges and suing the owners of the attackers.

    1. In my opinion, if the animal in question creates a problem for no one but the owner, there is no problem. They chose the problem for themselves, and they need to reap what they sow.

The over-arching theme of this blog are the social problems created by pets in society. Dogs are a major, but not the sole contributor.

In any case, if Kurt was a pain in your ass, but no one else's then I have no problem with him or you.

    2. Evading the pit bull issue is, unfortunately, not as simple as simply avoiding owning one...

Even if you personally choose not to own pit bulls or seek out interaction with them, does not mean you will be free of encounters with these animals. They can--and frequently DO--invade the lives of others without invitation, with frequently bloody results.

Pit bulls are a COMMUNITY problem. Their scope is far beyond the immediate home that chooses them. 'Responsible ownership' is a smoke-screen phrase that is meaningless; people have been talking about 'responsible ownership' going on two decades now and it has done nothing--it IS NOT WORKING. Attacks, disfigurement, dismemberment, fatalities are at a snowballing rate. This disturbing trend is only blunted and even reversed in areas which have enacted BSL, tellingly. Communities as a whole are subject to the presence of pit bulls... the proof is all around us, one need only open your eyes to look at it.

These dogs are so uniquely intrusive they INVADE homes to maul and kill. http://www.thecaninegamechanger.blogspot.com/2015/01/pit-bulls-are-community-problem.html

    3. I believe dog behavior becomes an issue when self entitlement overwhelms natural feelings of compassion for other human beings. Dogs also offer instant self gratification for what seems to be a growing number of our population that cannot form normal human bonds. The relationship the envision with their dogs is delusional on many levels.
Not sure if owners of problem barkers start out that way or discover along the way the power the can exert over someone else's life via mindless noise. It must be like a wet dream to discover all that power. Perhaps the barking is music to their ears for that reason alone.
Within the normal range of behavior would be her limiting her dogs barking thereby granting us the ability to ignore a reasonable ruckus on occasion.
FYI her dogs are over here trying to kill the little cottontails , birds at our many feeders. And my porch lizards.Even the man knows better than to mess with my porch lizards.

    4. AU, I agree and we solved the problem by correcting his behavior within a month. We'd met him when we went to adopt a kitten during adopt a cat month. He got along fine with everything and everybody. If I ever choose to own another dog or cat, I'll look into the kill shelters, rather than support the scammers and backyard breeders. They just seem far less cruel and more honest to me.

KaD, I know pits are a community problem. The one next door is not a question of it it's going to find a way out. It's a question of when. If I'm home, I will grab my shovel, and my knife and help defend the victim(s). I'd place my bets on the lady with the little yappy dogs, or one of the seniors with their quiet, well behaved dogs. It could be one of the innocent kids running around though. I hope I'm not home, I hope I'm gone with my son. I don't want to see the carnage firsthand.

Indeed. It is a true tyranny. Its a power they should NOT be allowed to have.

As a net taxpayer, productive worker, volunteer, and all around law abiding citizen I do NOT remember granting these idiots all this power over everyone else. And, yes, you and I are right - somehow, Fido and his owner get to control everyone else. I often wonder, is THIS why I work, pay taxes, volunteer, and respect the rights of others.... so dog owners can shit all over everyone else? Without people like me/us, they are SCREWED.

We live in a true Dog-ocracy. It is rule by Fido and his owner. As usual.... RESIST.

  13. I hate yappers or loud intimidating bakers. The only reason a dog should bark is to alert the owner to a perceived threat, possibly a quick bark if they need let in or out, and maybe when playing as a puppy until they're trained better. It shouldn't be a constant thing. If it is, the owner is an asshole. JRS owners think it's cool to have big mean scary animals. JR is exactly what they want. They're stupid though. The guy actually got stuck inside an air vent trying to run from the cops once. He tried to rob a small store. They had to use Cisco to get him out. It's not like he'll be a good owner and probably isn't a good father.
On a slightly different note, someone shared a link on my news feed. Hulk the XL pit bull is available as a stud Dark Dynasty K-9 will change a mere 20 grand for his service. I wonder how many dogs he'll eat rather than breed with? .

Pray they'll get busted for some illegal thing soon and be shut down. May I add, I do feel some sympathy for the dogs? They don't look healthy, and once again, for their sake, should be put down. Using the rescue war cry, dogs deserve better. Yes they do, they deserve to not be exploited in this manner and allowed to die peacefully before they attack instead.

    4. About Hulk, the king size POS: Here's everything wrong in the world of Pit Bulls in one single dog.

•Young people with less than settled lives and marginal incomes (just look at the furnishings).
•Dogs sold to anyone; cash and carry.
•Dogs sold on the internet at incredibly jacked up prices.
•Dogs being "trained" for protection by people who post no credentials, no affiliations, no Schutzhund titles, no Ring Sport titles.
•The mantra, "it's all how you raise them" is patched straight into dogs being sold based on deeply inbred pedigrees that are attached to names like "Monster" "Tommy Gun" and "Gangster."
•Very small children are kept in the house with the dogs, and the child is encouraged to ride the dogs like a pony. Seriously? The demonstrated lack of judgment and knowledge of dogs that we see here is incredible.
•We are told "Marlon is the son of world famous Reggae innovator Winston Grennan." Eh? Never heard of Winston Grennan. And what does that have to do with dogs? Not a thing. Tangential claims of celebrity suggest how hollow this operation really is.
•The web site says they are "a member of the American Dog Breeders Association and the United Kennel Club." Nope. They registered a dog by paying a few bucks to entities that will register any dog. They did not join anything.
•On the web site we are told a 140-pound dog can "jump two stories." Right. Those would be Ray Bradbury short stories, no doubt.
•Massive size is sold as the defining feature of their product. No mention is made of the fact that giant size and excessive weight means the dog will almost certainly die younger and move poorly. Again, real protection dogs do not look like this, and for a reason.

The bottom line is that this is a puppy mill for giant dogs to be sold to rappers, drug dealers, and people with more money than brains. http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2015/03/everything-wrong-in-world-of-pit-bulls.html

      Arabian Horse
      Paints
      Appaloosas
      Quarter Horses
      American Saddlebreds
      Quarter Horses
Those are horses breeds I have trained and shown. Each and every one was destroyed for the sake of breeding for exaggerated features or color/markings.

The breeding techniques used to achieve this I suspect are very much the same. When you breed for one thing nasties tend to attach and may not become evident until you have a throwback or a combined breeding that lets the beast out of the DNA. Ask anyone who's had or lost a QH to HYPP.

    1. Those aren't pets. Its a status symbol. Trophy dog. Now add all the supplements being sold to help beefcake your pitty up. Roid rage will soon be a defense for killer dogs. Pretty sure AU has a page about this trend.

      Delete
    2. Generally breeding for trophy or show has ruined quite a few types of dogs. It creates health and behavior problems. With pits already having genetic defects that cause serious behavior issues for normal people, giant ones just have to be worse. Those dogs simply don't look healthy. Add the tendency to maul plus an unhealthy animal and watch the blood fly. As for Jurassic Pit, I keep thinking about a line from the book and the movie. Jeff Goldblum says something like "you were so obsessed seeing if you could that you didn't stop to think if you should ". I think it's fitting when it comes to pit bulls in general.

      Delete
    3. Pits do not have a genetic defect. The were selectively bred to have the mind and brawn to take something down. All the traits that cause so much pain and death of humans and other pets are pits doing what they were bred to do.
You do not have to abuse a pit to train it to fight. Other animals will die but the pits themselves even the so called good ones can be turned into fighting dogs. Keep in mind that dogs that didn't have game were culled and used as the bait dogs. They weren't taken in and put in the baby's crib.
Dogs are manmade. Different types and breeds were selected to carry on traits that humans found useful or appealing. Like the history or not bully type dogs were bred to fight and kill.
That giant pit. I'd love to see that dogs hip x-rays and see how it does on a stress test. One of the problems of breeding bigger is that the organs don't always match the size of the animal. Just how healthy is that dogs heart ? Unless all the support systems for that monster body are in proportion he's not a product of selective breeding but a mutant. We can hope it keels over but I'm sure they have several thousand straws on ice.
They've also bulked this dog up on an immature skeletal frame. And who knows what they're pumping into the dog. Honestly to me the dog looks fat.

      Delete
  15. It's breeding away from the traits that causes the undesirable behavior. Like breeding for appearance instead of the original purpose. The inbreeding results in yapoy stupid dogs instead of quiet relatively intelligent working ones. I wonder how healthy any of these monster pits are. The poor things should not exist. That's animal abuse as much as any other act of cruelty.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Trisha. Sadly any human with two intact animals with agreeable DNA can breed them.

  17. I know. I would say you'd be surprised how some people breed rats, but I know you really wouldn't. I can't count the feral cats who were dumped in the trailer park we lived in, most were pregnant females. We had a vet who would fix and treat them because he felt sorry for them. I blame humans for all of the animal related problems. Dogs aren't born bad, people make them that way. Pit bulls didn't create themselves. Scumbags who like blood sports did. Then stupid people brought them into the pet population.

    1. Dogs aren't born bad? Really? Ever seen those online videos of tiny pit bull puppies fighting?

      Delete
    2. A well bred Pit Bull takes to fight training with ease. A bad Pit Bull by the real definition of the breed and their heritage is one that won't. They were the culls used as bait. Herding dogs that wouldn't herd or damaged livestock were disposed of. Not given out as pets.
Before spay and neuter inferior dogs and mutts were often killed soon after birth. Their DNA erased from the gene pool.
In reality dogs are neither good or bad they are simply the product of human manipulation. Most dogs no matter what the bred in code for behavior can be obedience trained with the method varying some from breed to breed. No amount of training or human bonding however changes the code in their brains that directs the instinctual behaviors.

      Delete
    3. Humans as the ones capable of forethought and international malice are the bad ones. Dogs are a product of mankind and a tool. Fighting pit bull puppies are not bad, they are a product of cruel and disgusting humans. Man is bad, dogs are simply dogs.

      Delete
    4. I find your line of thinking deplorable if not common. HUMANS alone concern themselves with the survival of other species. Humans eradicated smallpox, not dog. Humans taught starving Chinese peasants how to grow seven times more food. Only a few humans developed dogs for the sole purpose of killing and only a small percentage continue to support these shit breeds.

      Delete
    5. I am so sick of the evil humans approach to the dog problem. There are some very vocal groups that shout evil and racism if anyone dares share an opposing view. It is not unique to the dog problem.

    6. "Man is bad, dogs are simply dogs."

What a bunch of delusional dog worshiping nonsense.

People like you are the core of every dog problem from incessant barking, to mauling children. It's always the owners fault - until it's your dog. Then your precious dog was antagonized. Yeah, heard all before, over, and over, and over again.

      Delete
    7. First I never allowed my dogs to be a problem when I had them. I don't enjoy hearing barking nor do I enjoy stepping in crap. So I didn't inflict either on my neighbors. Still the owner who does not fix the problem is at fault. The dog is the problem. but it's the owners fault.
For all the good humans can do, our capacity for evil is just as strong. Humans murder, abuse, rape, molest. ... Dogs for all their problems are at best tools or companions. At worst they are dangerous or damaging. Still Mickey didn't put himself into the general population, neither did any other pit bull. Man chose to do that, and now the rest of us have to find ways to deal with the problems.
