Regulatory Capture

Regulatory Capture is a cancer on society.  Consider this excerpt from Wiki:  “In economics, regulatory capture occurs when a state regulatory agency, created to act in the public interest, instead advances the commercial or special interests that dominate the industry or sector it is charged with regulating. Regulatory capture is a form of government failure, as it can act as an encouragement for large firms to produce negative externalities. The agencies are called "captured agencies".”

This type of corruption (as well as sloth and incompetence) in our public Animal Control agencies are a large contributing factor to the Animal Uncontrol problem.   Note the Wiki excerpt indicates “commercial and special interests”.  I believe that a large majority of AC authorities the world over have been systemically corrupted by animal rights and owners rights fanatics, and various economic players who have an interest in keeping as many pets in circulation as possible.

If you are a public servant, paid by taxpayers, your primary responsibility is to preserve and protect the health and safety of the public. Unfortunately, I know from FIRST HAND experience that my local AC department has an animal 1st agenda.  That means that they are advocates for each individual animal and NOT an advocate for public health and safety.  THAT is one of the primary root causes of the Animal Uncontrol problem throughout the so-called “civilized” world.  I have been through the same scenario with them multiple times:  You have an owner who is clearly in violation… animal at large, animal trespass, extended loud barking, destruction of property, etc… and they say that, as long as the animal has access to food, water, shelter, there is nothing they can do.  They take this stance because public health and safety is NOT a priority for them.  Its not even that it’s a secondary or low priority… it is NO priority for them!   As long as the animal has what IT wants, everything is just A-OK!

The host comes through a little garbled, but the guest comes through loud and clear.  The guest is Tony Solesky, of Baltimore MD USA.   I deeply admire Tony’s intelligence, courage, and energy.  He brings an unusual clarity to the issue that leaves me in awe!   He goes into some detail on the corruption that’s the root cause of this problem.  Tony describes the problem WAY better than I can!!

You will note that he does NOT give the corrupt AC agency in his jurisdiction a break… we should ALL be doing this!  GIVE THEM HELL TONY!

A little background:  Tony’s son, Dominic, was attacked and nearly killed by a Pit Bull several years ago.  Tony and his wife did not let themselves be bullied by the perp and resident dog fanatics and moved on to push through some landmark legislation in that state that demands strict liability from Pit Bull owners and their landlords.

Bottom line here, is:  We need to take back our government from the owners rights and animal rights fanatics.  The interest of an individual dog, or dog owner, to terrorize the neighborhood does NOT override the RIGHT of the rest of us to live in peace and safety.  Public health and safety ALWAYS comes first.   We have HAD it with the barkers, biters, and off leash dogs everywhere.  Our streets, backyards and living rooms are going to be OURS again!  If our AC authorities won’t put US first, then we will replace them with those who will!
