The silver lining

That would be a silver lining for DOGS, not YOU... Peons!  What the hell were you thinking??

As per my last post, Mickey's original owner has been revealed!  The individual that abused and neglected St. Mick SOOOOO terribly that the Mick had no choice but to chow down on a four year old (who supposedly deserved to be eaten regardless, but who can keep track of those goalposts anyway?).  In any case, according to the foamers, we are talking about abuse so horrible, so unspeakable, it would make a Spanish Inquisitor immediately turn green and die from the sheer horror of it all!  O The Dogmanity!

Consider this pic from WMBC:

This is where Mickey use to live.

No green grass, not trees, no shade. Basically a sweat lodge, were he suffered, and was abused.

Mickey has come a long way since then.

Predictably, the WMBC commenters did not disappoint:

And, so forth.  Its tough to keep track of all the conflicting narratives.  Among them:

- Mick is completely innocent, yet being incarcerated was good for him.  So, shouldn't they be THANKING Kevin, the family, and the babysitter?  Hell, all this goodness could not have happened without them, right??   If it weren't for criminal mastermind Kevin "bone-jacker" Vicente, Mick would still be living in those HORRID conditions!

- Their "proof" that Mick was so horribly abused was... he lived outside in a doghouse.   Wouldn't that apply to ANY outdoor dog?  Where is the crusade to end outdoor tethering?   Again, shouldn't they be glad that Mick was IN the jail?   At least he wasn't outside where there are evil human children constantly trying to steal his food and toys.

- No green grass, not trees, no shade.  I have been to the Phoenix area several times.  This description fits the entire area.  IT IS A DESERT, FOOLS!   They are implying that the owner tore up all the grass and cut down all the trees for the primary purpose of making Dear Mick suffer.  Perhaps they should just BAN dog ownership in the entire US Southwest?

Reading the comments, there is a narrative that is conspicuously absent.  With the exception of a one-time comment by Schill, you NEVER hear the Mick horde apply any blame to the owner.   They make it sound like Mick's living conditions were something that just happened, that Mick just wound up in the doghouse by magic and was abused by.... whom??   Where is the vitriol aimed at THAT person?   Now, I don't read ALL of the comments, but enough to get the gist of the narrative.

The unspoken part of their narrative is that dog owners are ALL as pure as the driven snow, just like the animals they keep!  More bait and switch.  In the abstract, the foamers blame it on abuse/neglect/training, BUT when something actually happens, and / or if you actually must apply blame - put ALL of the blame on the victim, or at least someone else besides the dog and the owner.

You'd think, given that they are infatuated with this dog, they would harbor at least some vitriol for the person that set Mick up to fail.  Hey geniuses - WHO put Mick in that doghouse with no trees, no green grass, no iPads and no cable TV?  Who was it who abused him?  WHERE is the resentment aimed in THAT direction?  Nope, they gotta hate on the victim, his family, and all us critics.... it was all OUR fault!

And, there is the reason these problems roll on.  60 years of the dogocracy have seen to it that no dog or owner is held accountable for anything, ever.   Obviously, because its ALWAYS someone else who made a mistake, deliberately did the wrong thing, or needs to change.  And, it doesn't matter what the complaint is.  Dog owners NEVER do wrong, never need to modify their behavior, or do so much as lift a finger.  They are the epitome of absolute perfection!   Its the REST of us that need to change!

  1. I call bullshit. Have you seen pictures of the Mauler from earlier? He looked like a muscled pit bull in prime condition-the horrible owners certainly didn't skimp on FOOD. Again, they Cult of the Walking Meat Grinder is ignoring the fact the Mauler had previously killed a neighbor's puppy. Just a pit bull doing what it was BRED to do-maul and kill. Tens of millions of dogs live in the same conditions but don't typically cause severe, life altering injuries unless they're a PIT BULL. Dogs in general are unpredictable and troublesome, pit bulls and other FIGHTING BREEDS are completely inappropriate as PET animals.

    2. Funny thing, about a decade ago I remember reading a snippet somewhere about a "dog network" channel you could pay to get on video. The reasoning behind this--from what I can vaguely remember--was that since the owners were gone so much of the day, the channel could keep the dogs occupied.

Wow, that's even more anthropomorphic now that I've put it down in words.

  2. I have seen no evidence that the dog was either abused or neglected. Like many pits who have mauled it seems to be a happy social dog until something triggers it mauler switch. Once done they often resort to the happy little wiggle butts. The dog seemed to be trusted with inmates going in and out assisting in it's care. I don't believe the original owners were ever charged with neglect or animal cruelty. I also see shade available in multiple places depending on the time of day. What appears to be a bucket for water and evidence of his toy shredding by the dog house. There does not appear to be huge amounts of dog waste piled up and dragged around which is often seen where a neglected dog has been chained.
The dog had a house , shade, water, was not starved by any legal definition and had toys. (bone) He was not chained up where it could become tangled. Rather than seeing abuse in that picture it appears they made a few thoughtful considerations for the dog.
All of the finger pointers on the WMBC page should have to submit to a home inspection for the true living conditions of their pets. My personal favorite are the ones left in crates inside with the AC more or less turned off to save energy while the owners are gone or at work. Left to bake in a box out of sight.
In order to blame Kevin it was necessary to make the mauler a victim of abuse.

    1. Yes, the allegations of abuse are total BS, like everything else that comes out of their mouths. The blame lies with the owner because he did not contain Mick properly.... like 6 feet underground!

    2. I find it disturbing that the admin shows them a picture and makes allegations of abuse and instead of anyone looking at it with a critical eye the nutters simply drink the emotionally spiked Kool-Aid. Even worse this played out in court where a dog that was not abused was labeled a victim and the judge took a swig of it the bullshit with them.
Even more interesting the AR militants support dogs that maul and kill other pets. Which is far more common than the human mauling.

I'm stunned by how anthropomorphic it all is. The way they're carrying on, you'd think it was an Animal Planet special rather than a wild year-long controversy over a DOG that mauled a KID. These guys just do the greatest job at forgetting about Kevin and his mother, don't they?

Incarcerated Mickey, a victim of abuse. You'd think he was some disadvantaged youth living in a shoddy ghetto, captured by pseudo-filmography sensationalists looking for yet another tragic tale of living on the wrong side of the streets. He's not, though. He's a dog. Bred from a long, strong gene pool that excels in attacking without warning and not letting go.

Also, we may pity a victim of abuse who turns to abusing others, but we don't think they should get away with what they do.

    4. "In order to blame Kevin it was necessary to make the mauler a victim of abuse."

That makes sense to the foamers, but makes no real logical sense at all. I mean, Kevin didn't stick mickey in that horrible doghouse, did he? How much abuse can a 4 year old heap on a 80 lb dog?

Also, we may pity a victim of abuse who turns to abusing others, but we don't think they should get away with what they do.

I'm sure the foamers would argue that humans have sentience and free will and should know better. However, that narrative conflicts with the "dogs are people" narrative they spew the rest of the time.

That said, the rational people agree: Mickey is a biological machine acting out his DNA. He is like a robot that has been hard wired to attack living things. I say hard wired because no software patch (rehab, kind treatment) is going to change his behavior in any meaningful way.

      Delete
    5. I find the random activation of the maul switch the most disturbing aspect of the breed. Even their hardwiring is screwed up.

      Delete
    6. BTW all of their flawed logic is based on emotional reactions and outright lies about the breed. Even with all the real evidence right in front of them. The pit bull forums are full of nuts who describe without shame the things their wiggle butts do.

    7. When I started mistrusting pit bulls, I was told everything the pit bull lobby says is either a lie or a half-truth. That sounded pretty extreme at the time. A couple years later and I'm finding it's true.

The unpredictability is, maybe not the most disturbing to me, but it's certainly the biggest reason the dogs themselves frustrate me.

  3. Down here in Pima County, AZ, dog tie-outs are illegal. And, guess what, if you report this, animal control will be there with bells on.

OTOH, if you have a dog loose in your nabe, our AC will put the call into their system. That's it. You might not see them for hours, or days.

    1. There are restrictions in many places. One city near here has a time limit the dog can be tied out. Others restrict it completely. It is still legal our here but I see that coming to an end in the next few years.
One of the common but never talked about issues with chaining up the family dog is the tripping hazard. Dog running and pulling rope, cable or chain and flipping a child and throwing adults to the ground.
I got the best response from AC when I made it clear we were done dicking around with the neighbors dogs. Haven't seen them in a few weeks and seldom hear any barking. It was made clear on the final call that neither of us were going to be her dogs free bite.
There is a total of 23 calls to AC. A lot more than three licks to the center of the tootsie roll.

And, that is the epitome of absurdity. Under my regime, those dogs would have been gone 19-20 calls ago. They would not be allowed to own any more, either.

Never mind it won't be the ONLY animal living in your neighborhood), dog that need to go to a 'no kids' home (again, there will be other kids in the neighborhood), or dogs that require 'special handling' because they're bombs ready to go off. 2. I can relate paralles in my life with animals that I see when it comes to mature shelter and rescue dogs.
In brokering a deal for a child's horse I have had to explain patiently why that old, unattractive pony with obvious conformation fault is priced thousands more than the shiny new ride. One will look good and likely make your child hate to ride. The other will slog through their beginner seasons and give them not only success by being in the ribbons but do more for their self esteem and give them the ability to develop a secure seat and riding habits. These ponies are not available at auctions or the want ads. They are considered family treasures that someone is passing on so another child can benefit. Many times they aren't available for purchase just a lease because they parents want the pony back for the next child. You will be scrutinized in every detail of horse care and where the pony is to be housed. I know of a Shetland pony breeder that has a waiting list for his ponies. His attention to conformation, size and temperament above all else makes his ponies coveted when the brand shows up in a sale.
Then there are the horror stories of the parents who bought a horse/pony from a sale, the weekend dump auctions or through unscrupulous horse traders. For every one who lucks out there are at least 10 that are either stuck with a beast or hauling it back to the auction the next week. I now of at least one child with a metal plate in her head.
The majority of adult dogs and puppies are like the crap shoot at the weekend horse auctions. No verifiable history. And temperament tested by AR advocates whose only concern is making an adoption so the DOG has a forever home.
Neutering an aggressive adult male dog does not mean you have cured aggression. Stallions gelded late in life may maintain the behaviors of intact animals. It is a learned behavior. It is usually a few notches lower in intensity but much different than a cold gelded before sexual maturity. Getting a second hand animal is a crap shoot. People should think twice.

  5. Michael Vick ABUSED dogs, yet not too many have made headlines for attacking people. It doesn't look like Mickey came from the conditions most dogs who are fought come from. Instead it looks like he had a decent enough living area. Granted, I'm in a small town so dog fighters would keep their stock outside of the city limits, but of the pits who have attacked things, three came from homes where they were kept inside with free range of the house. There are humans who should have known better in the case of Mickey. His owner and the person keeping him should have known better. Their failure to warn Kevin's mother so she could keep her son far away is the human problem. As I've said before, I don't think Mickey is a particularly bad pit bull. He was acting on his genetics, which, while it doesn't make him a victim of abuse, does make him a problem to other living things. As long as pits are hard wired to attack without warning, and as long as they're bred and sold or adopted out, they will be a victim of their own genetics and mankind's disgusting bloodlust. If they would have been destroyed and dog fighting banned long ago, maybe we'd all be better off.

The only dogs "forced to fight" are the tens of thousands of normal dogs every year, dogs like poor Garth or poor little Soup, who are forced to fight for their lives in hopeless, one sided battles with "out of work" pit bulls, and most of whom die of their injuries." http://www.17barks.blogspot.com/2015/06/pit-bull-myths-forced-to-fight.html

    5. Why allow fighting breed dogs to proliferate? Demand side economics. People are free to harass, injure, and kill others with their dogs. This creates a high demand amongst the reprobate for an animal with a built in proclivity to do so. An absence of Pit Bulls and the like limits one's ability to create mayhem via dog.

Note that I say "limits", not "eliminates": As long as assault by dog is legal, we will still have a lot of problems.

It now appears that if you go into a home where a dog lives you are risking you child or possibly yourself to a dog mauling. I do love how the authorities here are twiddling their thumbs and the dog owner is of course blaming the child.
I quit a lovey ranch job over the owners Akita. A few weeks after I walked the dog mauled the handy man who had more contact with it than even the owner from puppyhood. Sweet little puppy the more mature it became the more it acted out it's DNA.

  6. I don't know what the point is Ka D. Dogs should serve some type of purpose, even basic companionship. To be a good companion requires a safe, stable temperament, something pits fail at. To be anything a dog should be, enough pits fail, all it takes is the statistics to show us the truth. I know they'd be my LAST choice as a guard dog, for livestock or my home. I definitely don't want one as a companion for myself or my seven year old. I don't feel a need to intimidate people or cry and play the victim for choices I make. What other reason does a pit bull serve? I do feel sorry for the animals, but only to the point of s/n to extinction so they're not mistreated by miscreants or a danger to everything else.

Non-pit / non-fighting dog degenerates are a little better - they may stop short of murder and dismemberment, but not much. Kind of like a rapist that does not kill his victims.

    2. The senior apartment complex across the street is being expanded to a "luxury" complex. It's going to end in a bloodbath, there are four apartments done, and two of them have pit bulls. I hope none of the older people are victims, again, they are responsible dog owners, I'm sure in part because the rules demanded it. I do believe luxury is really going to be spelled g-h-e-t-t-o judging by the looks of the new renters and their choice of dogs. I actually liked talking to the older people and getting to know their dogs, none more than ten pounds and not one barker, I fear they'll lose their lives and their pets to new renters as the apartments get done.

    3. Trisha, in the past four years I've spent living in a particular area of town, I've really come to appreciate elderly owners of small dogs. In my experience they're DEFINITELY the most likely to follow the rules and make sure their dogs don't become a nuisance. They have nothing to prove, they just want a nice little pet. I also, personally, find something sweet in elderly men who keep little dogs. It certainly impresses me more than the shirtless dude walking around with a giant pit bull.

    5. Cardinal I agree one hundred percent. AC, that's true that it crosses all kinds of people, but pit owners are a special kind of stupid. Either macho dudes wanting a status symbol, or people duped into thinking they're ideal for their kids to grow up with. I do think senior citizens follow the rules better. Regardless of rather or not they live in the apartments across the street, they're the ones cleaning up after their usually quiet and friendly dogs.

  7. The trouble with just making pits illegal to breed and requiring s/n is the massive crossbreeding and making of mutts with the defective DNA now inserted into other stable and even worse unstable breeds. The only way to end this debacle are laws that make all dogs equal under the law and their owners equally culpable when the dog does a deed. When the owners of teacup floor rats have to post dangerous dog signs and post a 100K bond to keep their dog you will see the dog community switch it's mantra from pits and a few other know breeds being just like any other dog. You will then see the vast majority of just lousy dog owners demanding breed specific laws.
If you have neighbors with chronic barkers that are ruining your life take them to court if AC treats you like the problem and you might want to try and make the AC an accessory by allowing it to continue. When civil court dockets are even more backed up than they currently are officials will have no choice but to address the problem.
Dog owners live in one of two situations. Home owners where they have visible assets or renters where the landlord obviously has some financial worth. Check your local laws and obtain a security camera. You will not lose a civil case if you present evidence of continuous dog or other pet issues. Dog owners especially count our you not to make trouble or their own ability to intimidate you. A judgment will not make the dogs stop barking. It might make them think about the possible repeat future consequences.
Much like the continual misery dog owners inflict on everyone around them it might be time to make their lives a bit more miserable.
